Surf Haven Bali Surf Retreat - Our Story

Thanks for letting me share the story of how Surf Haven Bali was born and how my journey brought me to this beautiful island, Bali.

I remember a Career Advisor visiting my High School and telling the class that by the time a women reached 30 she would be onto her second career. At the time I couldn’t imagine doing anything apart from my passion, Marketing. Fast forward another 15 years and after finishing my Masters in Japanese and Marketing and holding down a busy international career in Fashion Marketing living in London, Tokyo, Sydney and New Zealand, I was more than ready for a change.

The idea was really sparked after a conversation with a girlfriend who asked me if fear was no factor, what would I do? In truth I had lost my passion and felt myself changing. The time was right to move onto the next chapter. I wanted to take all the elements of my job that I loved and combine them with my other passions – coaching, surfing, yoga and wellbeing.

My vision was to create a space for women that offered them the chance to take time out for themselves, meet other like-minded women from all over the world having an adventure of a lifetime that would allow them to feel re-energized and renewed. A place which offered luxury along with nutritious healthy food, daily surf and yoga lessons and delicious spa treatments, set in paradise.

Bali has always held a very dear place in my heart. Growing up I spent many wonderful holidays here with family and then girlfriends. It is the unique blend of culture and natural elements that create the magic that Bali is known, and loved for. I saw an opportunity to offer women a choice in a surf spa retreat,  a quality five star experience with real value for money.

For me surfing seemed like an obvious foundation for the retreat. I can still remember the first time I surfed, growing up on the ocean in New Zealand I watched my brother and father go off surfing for years. One day I thought I would try and after many attempts (and face plants), I finally managed to stand on the board for half a second, but that was all it took to convert me to a surf addict – I was hooked.

Today, some of the best moments I have are surfing with my girlfriends, out on the ocean.
I believe that when women surf together something powerful happens – they awaken to their true self, developing inner confidence, strength and friendship. It allows us to let go and literally washes away concerns giving perspective and bringing inner peace and harmony.

Surfing is one of the most blissful experiences you can have, a pure slice of heaven. I invite you to experience this bliss at Surf Haven Bali
